Hello! I want to install Samba 2.0.2. I have Solaris 2.5.1 running suparc 20, I had unzipped and configured the source successfully, then I gave command "configure" and it completed automatically, didn't ask any question. After that I give command to compile it. i.e. "make". The result was as follows: /u/samada/samba20/var/log.smb" -DNMBLOGFILE="/u/samada/samba20/var/log.nmb" -DCO NFIGFILE="/u/samada/samba20/lib/smb.conf" -DLMHOSTSFILE="/u/samada/samba20/lib/l mhosts" -DSWATDIR="/u/samada/samba20/swat" -DSBINDIR="/u/samada/samba20/bin" -DL OCKDIR="/u/samada/samba20/var/locks" -DSMBRUN="/u/samada/samba20/bin/smbrun" -DC ODEPAGEDIR="/u/samada/samba20/lib/codepages" -DDRIVERFILE="/u/samada/samba20/lib /printers.def" -DBINDIR="/u/samada/samba20/bin" -DHAVE_INCLUDES_H -DPASSWD_PROGR AM="/bin/passwd" -DSMB_PASSWD_FILE="/u/samada/samba20/private/smbpasswd" Using FLAGS32 = -O -Iinclude -I./include -I./ubiqx -I./smbwrapper -DSMBLOGFILE ="/u/samada/samba20/var/log.smb" -DNMBLOGFILE="/u/samada/samba20/var/log.nmb" -D CONFIGFILE="/u/samada/samba20/lib/smb.conf" -DLMHOSTSFILE="/u/samada/samba20/lib /lmhosts" -DSWATDIR="/u/samada/samba20/swat" -DSBINDIR="/u/samada/samba20/bin" - DLOCKDIR="/u/samada/samba20/var/locks" -DSMBRUN="/u/samada/samba20/bin/smbrun" - DCODEPAGEDIR="/u/samada/samba20/lib/codepages" -DDRIVERFILE="/u/samada/samba20/l ib/printers.def" -DBINDIR="/u/samada/samba20/bin" -DHAVE_INCLUDES_H -DPASSWD_PRO GRAM="/bin/passwd" -DSMB_PASSWD_FILE="/u/samada/samba20/private/smbpasswd" Using LIBS = -lsec -lsocket -lnsl Your Positive response in this regards will be highly appreciated; Thanks abdul.samad@cressoft.com.pk
When the world was young, jonc@irss.unc.edu carved some runes like this:> I have Samba 2.0.2 running under Solaris 2.6 and I can connect with no > problems under UNIX with the smbclient.[snip]> This seems OK but none of the PC at our site can see the server either in > network neighborhood or with the command line net view or net use XXXXXX > . A run of testparm seems to run OK.Please provide more info. Have you gone through the test steps in Diagnosis.txt? What kind of name resolution are you using (both TCP/IP & NetBIOS)? Are you running other protocols besides TCP/IP? Some of these guys are pretty damn good, but I don't think they're psychic. Steve
When the world was young, "Dave Walton" <walton@emusic.com> carved some runes like this:> Hmmm... I've sent a couple of questions to the list recently, with > no responses. Are my messages getting out?I didn't respond because I have no clue what your problem might be (I'm a self-taught seat-of-the-pants kinda guy with a geophysics background, not networking or anything close).> Since upgrading to 2.0.2, our Win95 boxes are having problems > accessing shares. WinNT works perfectly. Win95 worked fine > with 1.whatever, but now it can only see files that are actually in > the share directory. It can see subdirectories of the share, but > they appear as empty directories. What system updates have been applied to the win95 clients (I assume they're OSR2?)? Many of them address broken network components. See: http://www.walbeehm.com/win95upd.html The OSR2 FAQ also has some good info: http://www.compuclinic.com/osr2faq/> Has anyone else seen this? Is anyone using 2.0.2 successfully > with Win95? Should I just bag it and go back to the old version? If 2.x and win95 were that much of a problem, then many other people on this list would be screaming. The different behavior you're seeing with win95 and NT is an M$ problem. It's just the opposite with me: my OSR2 clients work just fine with samba, but our lone NT4 machine doesn't work quite right. I can browse the samba server from NT, but I can't list the NT shares from smbclient. But then, I also can't see the NT shares from a win95 DOS prompt using Net View either. Go figure... Steve

This is not the place to go into details (off topic) but check out the Linux IP Firewalling and Masquerading support, and one of the packages "diald" or "Masqdialer" (Masqdialer is easier), which will allow remote control of the modem connection from the Windows box. If you want more details or pointers, feel free to email me directly.
just put samba 2.0.2 on a spare machine to test things. all our win95 applications work fine and can see all the appropriate subdirectories in the share cheers, ---------------------------------------------------- Dr Hugh Nelson <hugh.nelson@ausinfo.com.au> 3 Sir John Overall Dr, Helensvale, QLD 4210, Australia Ph:+61 7 5573 2122
