rsync - May 2009 - Bad file descriptor (9), error in file IO (code 11) at receiver.c(720) [receiver=3.0.5]?

Hi All;

I keep getting "Bad file descriptor (9), error in file IO (code 11) at
receiver.c(720) [receiver=3.0.5]" from the following:

Then I start the rsync again and get a little further along. I've gotten
about 6 GB copied so far with maybe 30-40 invocations of rsync copying
several hundred MB each time.
I'm sad that I haven't discerned the cause and corrected my problem
through this

that
someone here can tell me what I'm doing wrong.
